The ministry of education and sports has warned schools across the country to desist from hiking Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) fees.
The ministry says it is ready to take serious action against schools and headteachers, who extort parents.
The director of basic and secondary education, Hajj. Ismail Mulindwa, says that they have received reports that private schools are charging exorbitant UNEB fees to finalists yet is illegal.
"Some selfish directors have become a burden to the parents by charging illegal UNEB fees. If we get any school hiking UNEB fees, we will withdraw the license. If it is a Government school, the headteachers will be held accountable. Such people are frustrating government efforts of making education unaffordable." Mulindwa said.
Mulindwa called upon parents to report headteachers to the ministry who have increased fees.
The official UNEB fees are sh34000 for Primary Leaving Education, sh164000 for Uganda Certificate Education and sh186000 for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
Mulindwa's warning follows one other warning from UBEB's executive secretary, Dan Odongo.

The Schools Calendar shows that the briefing of students will be on February 26, and the Uganda Certificate of Education examinations will start on March 1, 2021, to April 6, 2021.
