IGANGA - Three people, including an aspirant for Iganga Woman MP, have been arrested for holding an illegal procession after nominations.

Mariam Hussein, the Iganga Woman MP, Jafferi Sooka, and Fred Dhikusoka were arrested shortly after nomination at the district headquarters as their supporters joined them.

The Police fired tear gas to disperse the supporters, paralysing traffic and business in the town.

The supporters responded by pelting the Police with stones.

Supporters of Peter Mugema, the municipality MP, who had earlier camped at his home in Nakavule zone, accompanied him to the nomination venue despite pleas by the Police not to hold the procession.

The Iganga district Police boss, Davis Ndawula, said the three are to appear before the court to answer charges of holding an illegal procession likely to spread the coronavirus.

Mugema, who is contesting as an independent, lost the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag during the primaries but said he was cheated.
