📽️ Visual impairment: How COVID-19 has affected victims

For people with visual impairment, the white cane is an essential tool that gives them the ability to achieve a full and independent life.

The National Federation of the Blind celebrates White Cane Awareness Day every year on October 15. 

In Uganda, the Uganda National Association of the Blind marked the day at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala with focus on the coronavirus and the control measures put in place that did not favour the visually impaired. 

 

 

Francis Kinubi, the board chairperson of the Uganda National Association of the Blind, talks about how the pandemic has affected those with visual impairment.

He also mentions the big challenge of bodabodas who are not aware of the white cane.

For people with visual impairment, the white cane is an essential tool that gives them the ability to achieve a full and independent life. 
 
It allows moving freely and safely from place to place — whether it's at work, at school, or around neighborhoods.
