Uganda Police Force on Thursday bowed down to pressure and visited an old lady captured in a video, that has since gone viral, being beaten by a police officers attached to Mbale Police station.

Mbale Police Divisional Police Commander, Fred Mchanga, led the delegation that visited the old woman who was flogged by the late Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP), Sam Okiror, who passed on last month.

Okiror was attached to Mbale Central Police Station as the Field Force Commander and the video sparked outrage on social media with several people demanding police to take action on the officer.

In the video, Okiror is seen whipping the old woman who appeared to be walking to her home without provoking the police.

Chief Political Commissar of Police, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), Asan Kasingye while responding to online outrage on Twitter, noted that the incident was unfortunate and that the officer would be subjected to the "disciplinary courts of law".

Kasingye however, later tweeted that the officer had been identified and has long been dead.

"I have been reliably informed that this officer, AIP Okiror, the OC FFU Mbale died three weeks ago and was buried in Bukedea. This matter can be put to rest though should remain a lesson to all of us in Police Force," he said.

Okiror reportedly died on Monday, September 21 at Embargo clinic where he had been swiftly admitted in what sources noted was a result of Covid-19 related complications.
