Despite a long break due to COVID-19 lockdown, Uganda lacrosse women national team coach Keith Lubangakene is impressed with the fitness levels of the players.

Lubangakene's was speaking after conducting trials at St Henrys' Academy in Kabalagala, a city suburb in Makindye division.

"I am so surprised to see the girls close to full fitness after a long time without active play. I'm impressed with their attitude", Lubangakene noted.

The trial was aimed at selecting high school players who will join the national team which will represent the country next year in the World Lacrosse Women Championships in August at Maryland, United States of America.

The second and last phase of the trials will be conducted for five days from November 15-20 in Lugazi. Thereafter, the local coaching committee will now have enough time to choose the best players to help the country perform better in the tournament to raise in ranking from the current position which isn't that good.

"The mixture of both the local and foreign coaches will help our players learn the various skills they might have been lacking," noted Makanda.

Isaac Ssekamwa, the advisor to ULA revealed there was also following up on the diet of their players.

"We are planning to engage the schools in which the girls are studying to check the feeding of the girls to keep them in shape," reasoned Ssekamwa

The team will be travelling to Maryland two months before the kickoff of the tournament to enable them to get accustomed to the playing surfaces and also have friendly matches with different teams in the neighbouring cities.
