▶️ UPDATE: Judge Gadenya seriously hurt in Masindi car crash - airlifted to Kampala

An eyewitness saw the driver of the lorry suddenly swerve off the road, crashing into the judge’s vehicle, which was heading to Masindi from Kampala.

ACCIDENT

Masindi High Court resident judge Paul Wolimbwa Gadenya, who was seriously injured after being involved in a road accident Monday morning has been airlifted to Kampala and rushed to Nakasero hospital.



The accident occurred when his official vehicle, a Pajero, collided with a Fuso lorry at a spot along the Masindi-Kafo Road in Bigando cell, Kigulya division, six kilometres from Masindi.


The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force dispatched a helicopter to evacuate judge Gadenya, as tweeted by the army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso.

"UPDF family wishes Justice Paul Gadenya quick recovery," she wrote in the Twitter post.

Eyewitness Chris Businge told New Vision that the crash happened at around 9:30am local time.

He said he saw the driver of the lorry suddenly swerve off the road, crashing into the judge's vehicle, which was heading to Masindi from Kampala.

Gadenya, his driver and bodyguard survived with injuries.

Businge, who witnessed the nasty crash, said the judge crashed appeared to have sustained leg and head injuries. He was pulled out of the partly mangled vehicle in semi-conscious state.



Joel Tinkasimire, another eyewitness, said that the judge and the other survivors were rushed to Masindi Kitara Medical Centre for treatment .

Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, said the judge was seriously injured but that the other occupants were recuperating.

"The other two who were occupying the judge's vehicle are out of danger. The driver of the Fuso is still on run and the inquiries about the cause of the accident are ongoing," he said.
