Lord Mayor: Lukwago nominated amidst tight security

KAMPALA - Security was beefed up in and outside the electoral commission offices at Ntinda, a Kampala city suburb in Nakawa Division, as candidates vying for the position of Kampala Lord Mayor, arrived for nomination.
FDC's Ssalongo Erias Lukwago, arrived first accompanied by fellow party members and other opposition politicians.
Notable among them were; Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze, FDC's spokesperson and MP Kira Municipality, Ssemujju Nganda, Nakawa MP Michael Kabaziguruka, Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa, among others.
However, police battled the crowd that had escorted Lukwago, and other candidates for violating the COVID-19 guidelines.
After Lukwago, NUP flag bearer for Kampala Lord Mayor, Naggayi Nabilah Sempala, also arrived for nomination.
She was seconded by Prossy Kakande and Mohsin Kakande.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner, Anderson Buroro, said, the deployment was aimed at avoiding commotion at the electoral commission offices and also to allow the smooth flow of traffic along the road in and around Ntinda.
