ELECTIONS

The Catholic Church has condemned the acts of violence and other malpractices that have been experienced in the recent weeks during the NRM party primaries, urging the Electoral Commission to ensure that they do not manifest again.

The chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Bishop Joseph Antony Zziwa, who is also the bishop of Kiyinda Mityana diocese, recently said rigging and buying of votes must also be stopped.

"Buying votes is one form of bribery, corruption and it is a form of enslavement," he said. Zziwa added that registration of voters must be strictly observed and respected.

To the Electoral Commission, the bishop called for civic education through out the country before the general election."There are people who have been voting many times when they do not know what to do or how. So, there must be civic education," Zziwa said, while reading the message conveyed by the bishops.
