LIRA- Youth have been accused of flouting the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the ongoing special interest groups (SIG) elections.

While opening a one-day regional stakeholder's workshop on electoral guidelines and SOPs at Margarita Palace Hotel in Lira, last week, the commissioner of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mustapha Ssebagala Kigozi, said the youth exhibited high levels of indiscipline during SIG elections.

The director of Lira Hospital, Dr Stephen Oboo, reiterated the need for people to follow SOPs during elections.

On electoral observers, Kigozi said all organisations and individuals are expected to table their interest before the EC, that will investigate and accredit them.

He added that both the international and local observers shall follow the same procedures.

Michael Adonyo, the regional People Power co-ordinator for Lango, said many media houses are charging candidates exorbitant fees to campaign on their platforms.
