Keeping fit during the pandemic

Although some people can manage to eat food and gain no weight, exercises are beneficial to them, too.

Most people are spending more time at home during the lockdown pandemic, which was not the case before. This means that a person can eat all the home meals and also have less travel. As a result, this has found them putting on more weight than they anticipated.

However, they are many risks of being obese. This includes gaining cardiovascular diseases and high blood pressure.

Sennyondo Ivan Wong, the Chief instructor and trainer at Country Wing Chinese Kung Fu schools, Kololo reveals exercises are important because they help pump the blood in the body so that it works at a healthy. He says: "exercising helps the heart to have a normal heart rate so that nothing shocks it."

Although some people can manage to eat food and gain no weight, exercises are beneficial to them, too. "Some people think that exercising is just keeping off weight but it is more that," he says. "Even a small person needs to exercise."

Make sure you sweat

Sennyondo says that good work out should produce sweat, which releases toxins from the body. For those who do walking exercises, they should walk faster to increase the heartbeat rate. However, he attests that a person who jogs and sprints has a higher heart pumping rate than the one who walks.

Increase Time

"It is imperative if you are to carry out 40 minutes exercise, you should do it," Ssenyondo says. "Some people lazily go about the exercise waiting for the time to elapse when they have put in less effort." That causes the person to lose out on the good intentions of having a strong heart, losing weight, and staying healthy.

Losing weight

Desta Zion a fitness trainer at "Be fit and Be Healthy" in Kampala says exercises can help a person shed off excess weight depending on their target areas like the arms, waist, and belly.

According to Desta, all that is possible if they supplement that with a good diet of reducing or eliminating junk foods and sugars.

Drink lots of water

Do you want to keep fit? Duncan Kirya a fitness trainer at Gym Galaxy and Gymnastic Centre, Jinja urges that a person should stay hydrated all the time. "You should drink a lot of water to wash out toxins from the body and replaced lost water in the sweat," he says.

Strong bones

With the exercise, one can have strong bones and sleep well. With proper work out Sennyondo says a person does not have to cry of backache, headaches, or neck problems.

Household chores

Some people say they cannot exercise because of the different home activities they carry out like washing clothes, digging, and sweeping the house. Sennyondo says the major advantage with exercises is working out your entire body, which is not the case with other home activities.

If you have pain after doing exercise, there is no cause for worry. "It is natural since you have been working out areas you have never," he says. With time and constant workouts, the pain easily eases.

More to that, when working out, it is important to push yourself, beyond what you normally do for better results. However, don't overdo it as it might be too much for the body, Sennyondo says your increment should be a gradual process.

For those people who want to be healthy, exercise should be on top of their lists. You can do every day for half an hour or you can skip a day. Sennyondo says following those routines is sometimes hard but once it is a discipline, it might not be a challenge at all.

You can keep fit by going to the gym

Remember you do not have to wait until the doctor prescribes exercise for you, you can do it now. Some people come for exercises on command from the doctor and it is a challenge. "They want to get better quickly," Sennyondo reveals. "You risk rushing it and get stroke as it might be too much for the body."
