Parliament on Tuesday afternoon held a special sitting to pay tribute to fallen Pallisa district woman MP Faith Alupo.

In a motion moved by Kirunda Kivejinja, the second deputy prime minister, Alupo was described as a hardworking, humble, and intelligent MP who at 37 years was developmental in the growth of the NRM party.

Alupo passed away on September 15 at Mulago National Referral Hospital having suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes.

The body did not lie in state at Parliament as is usually the practice for fallen sitting legislators.

However, in her communication, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga said Alupo's husband was unable to attend the special sitting as he is observing quarantine.

The speaker's statement led some MPs to make a call to the government to release a statement on the cause of Alupo's death.

MPs also called for transparency from the government on COVID-19 related deaths and numbers.

Alupo's body will be transported to Pallisa district on Wednesday for burial.
