Residents of Bulowoza village in Iganga district are excited over a new mosque called Masjid Rahma, which has been constructed in their area.

According to the Imam of Bulowoza mosque, Sheikh Yowali Jamada, the Muslims had been walking for more than three kilometres to attend prayers at Kasolo Mosque.

"It was an inconvenience to many. No wonder there is general excitement over the new structure. Whenever it would rain, some of us would find it difficult to move for prayers," Jamada told New Vision on Tuesday.

He said no sooner had they started praying from their new mosque than the ban on worship places was passed, to curb the spread of COVID-19.

"Our mosque opened its doors to worshippers in January. Two months later, we were stopped from going for prayers," Jamada disclosed.

Ayub Ibulabato, the Masjid Rahma chairperson, explained that the new building has a capacity of more than 200 worshippers. "It has washrooms for both men and women. Two water-harvesting tanks with a capacity of 2,000 litres each have been installed to ensure a regular water supply," Ibulabato said.

Cassim Wandira, the mosque secretary, thanked Sheikh Jamada for donating the plot of land on which the new structure was built.

"Mariam Seif, a Good Samaritan, contributed to have this building in place. However, we cannot forget the one who gave us the land free of charge," Wandira observed.

Sheikh Hussein Bowa, the Busoga regional khadi, said the construction of the mosque has brought the much-needed services closer to the faithful.

Bowa said: "All the people who made this construction become a reality need to be commended. Their efforts will be duly rewarded by Allah."
