The Police in Mukono has launched a manhunt for two suspects who allegedly stabbed to death Christopher Batte, 58, a cab driver and resident of Nyenje, in Mukono district.

Preliminary investigations indicate that three people were involved in the incident that occurred on Wednesday evening at around 3:00 pm, in Seeta town.

It is alleged that the three suspects contracted Batte to transport them to Bajjo village but upon reaching there, they strangled and stabbed him five times in the head and three times on the right hand.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, said the perpetrators then bundled the deceased's body into his vehicle's boot.

An eyewitness said that as the culprits were hastily driving away in the vehicle, a white Toyota Premio registration number UAY 765H, it got stuck and they had to call people who were nearby to help push it back on the road.

Those people around allegedly saw blood seeping from the car and demanded to know what they were carrying but the suspects declined to give clear answers which prompted them to open it.

"On opening the car trunk, the body was discovered and a mob immediately attacked the suspects injuring one, while two escaped in the confusion — a man and a woman," said Onyango.

He added that in the process, the mob also damaged the deceased's car.

"One male suspect was rescued and taken to CPR Medical Centre in Mukono Town for treatment pending interrogation," Onyango added.

Police also recovered a knife and rope, which were allegedly used to kill the deceased. By press time, the body had been taken to Mulago Hospital for postmortem as further investigations into the matter continue.
