Home Schooling: Parents should control the use of learning devices

Sep 13, 2020

Parental controls should be turned on every phone.

One of the dangers and challenges of home schooling as we are doing these days is child safety.

Our children during these hard times are getting exposed to things that they were protected from before by their precious teachers.

The mobile phone has become an instrument of learning, but it can pose real danger to our children .

We should be aware of this as parents and heighten our monitoring and use of the mobile phones and the laptops.

Nine-year-olds are opening social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram and meeting new friends. They also want to socialise and do social media. They are taking photos and posting for the entire world of the wicked to see.

Your under-aged child might have a media account without you knowing and that can be very dangerous for the child.

On the laptop, children are also downloading videos that they have no business seeing. Online information being enticing, the children can easily be drawn in and quickly deceived and consequently derailed.

It is, therefore, important that we as parents are always seeking ways of making the online experience of children safer for them.

Parental controls should be turned on every phone. This helps to minimise the mature content that your child has access to.

I have also discovered that some browsers give notifications from pornographic sites.

These come with the phones and parents have to be aware of this and see how they can handle it.

If possible let the browser be uninstalled or let the phone be changed.

It is also important to frequently check on the content of the laptops and the phones so that you can be able to see what the children are seeing and watching.

Children are at great risk and they are targets by all the wrong people.

We should be aware of that as parents and seek ways of eliminating the risk they face.
