KAMPALA - Former city mayor Nasser Ntege Sebaggala has been admitted to the International Hospital Kampala, Namuwongo, a Kampala city suburb.

According to his son, Abdu Gamel Nasser Ssebaggala, the former mayor was taken into the intensive care unit on arrival at the hospital, after developing complications in the stomach.

"After having his supper on Tuesday, dad sat in the sitting room, listening to the radio, when he suddenly felt weak," Gamel said. He said medics at the hospital rushed him to the ICU, to ascertain what had gone wrong.

According to the family, medics had informed them that the former mayor had developed a disorder in his stomach, commonly referred to as intussusception.

Intussusception is a condition in which part of the intestine slides inside another or into an adjacent part of the intestine.

According to medics, whenever it occurs, the complication often blocks food or fluid from passing through.

The family members yesterday pitched camp at the hospital.

Sebaggala's brother, Latif Ssebagala, who is also Kawempe North legislator, said: "Hajji underwent surgery and he is responding well to treatment. We are optimistic, his condition will improve."
