Gunmen Kill 70-year-old in Lwengo

It is said that the two thugs stormed the mobile money shop on a motorcycle and one of them donning a police uniform.

LWENGO- A manhunt is on for unknown gunmen said to have shot and killed a 70-year-old woman and injured another man during a mobile money robbery.

The gruesome incident occurred on Sunday night ( September, 05)  at around 9pm at Sseke village, Busubi parish in Kinoni town council.

The thugs also run off with sh5m and two mobile phones.

Aidah Nabwami was shot in the chest and died shortly after reaching the hospital while Asadi Jjemba, a mobile money operator nearby, was admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition.

It is said that the two thugs stormed the mobile money shop on a motorcycle and one of them donning a police uniform.

According to the eyewitnesses, they could not copy the registration number in the cover of darkness.

It is said that they entered the shop and shot Jjemba whom they ordered to hand over the money.

In the process, Nabwami came out of the bar to see what was happening and the thug shot her.

Hellen Anek, the nursing officer in charge of emergency, said Nabwami bled profusely yet she arrived late at the hospital when they could not save her life.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the Southern Police spokesman, said that investigation into the matter has kicked off.

He added that they are doing whatever they can to track the thugs.

The body is still at Masaka hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
