COVID-19: IOM boosts government efforts at the borders

Sanusi Tejan Savage, the Chief of mission International Organization for Migration (IOM) has handed over IPC Items and PPEs to Jane Ruth Aceng, the minister of health to help in the fight against COVID-19 at the borders.

Resounding His Excellency the President's remarks that Uganda is at war, he said that the whole world is at war against the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that war is a time for action and strategizing to defeat the enemy.

"IOM has come to support the Government's courageous fight against COVID-19, by presenting items for Infection Prevention and Control, Personal Protective equipment, as well as computers and printers," Sanusi said.

Commending the government of Japan, for financing this donation, worth Shs275 m, Sanusi added that the donation is aimed at specicifically boosting Uganda's efforts to keeping the country's borders secure against COVID-19.

He commended the Government and people of Uganda for bravely battling COVID-19. 

"I know the situation, especially in Kampala, is worrying in the last three months.  But we also know that without the action you have taken, the situation could have been much worse." Sanusi said.

Aceng commended IOM saying that the country's borders are porous and every effort at curbing the virus at the border will reduce its spread in the communities.

This was at the ministry of health head offices in Wandegeya Thursday (September, 03).
