There are little facts people can spew about women's football off the head but the heroics of Olympique Lyonnais feminine in the UEFA women's champions league is evidence that the right investment yields results.

On Sunday, the French team collected their fifth champions league in a row and the victims were German outfit Wolfsburg by a 3-1 margin. For there effort Lyon will collect the same bonus as the men's side albeit the fact that one finished in the semi-finals of the most watch European Club knockout out competition and the other in the little known competition.

This is because for five years what the men's side cannot do the women have achieved with little farce. If anything it's the easy determination with which Lyon have dominated Europe that has forced club president Jean-Michel Aulas to plan for global dominance.

With there position in Europe sealed, Aulas in July rolled out a plan for global dominance. They defeated German, English, and Spanish sides over time in the last decade and now fancy themselves big enough to challenge at the global stage.

Like many successful sides in the world, Lyon may have to increase there investment to pull off that fear. They are known for literally depleting some of the most successful teams in and around them as they built There sides. English teams like Man City who had also profited from other stronger teams also lost out as the French side built there team. With global dominance on the cards, they may have to double their effort for the results.

They are a side that has never shied away from approaching the best which is why they have always attracted the best players from around the world in the last decade. American superstars like Meghan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and legendary goalkeeper have all played there. That aura of invincibility has been developed over time but like the best teams in the world, you can never have enough of the good players because your rivals also continue strengthening.

Their biggest challenge came from fellow French side PSG who they defeated by 1-0 in the semi-finals to advance to the final. Their local rivalry spilled through to the champions league but as usual, Lyon had the answer. It's even possible that that narrow semi-final loss could inspire PSG to use the arsenal of resources available to them to take the challenge to their rivals.

In conclusion, women's football is just like any team sport out there whatever you give it in as seed money or investment is whatever you will get. Olympique Lyonnais have once again proved that when you aim for the stars you will grab the stars, the city of Lyon was disappointed in the men's champions league but so far the women have brought back that sense of pride.
