Nabweru chief magistrate's court has passed a 17-year jail term to Simon Shimanya who killed his wife Viola Kakai a nurse at International Hospital Kampala (IHK).
This happened on August 1, 2020 at their home in Bbumbu Kitezi zone -Kasangati town council where Shimanya hit the deceased with an axe several times on the head in the presence of their three children after he heard someone dropping her off at night.
Prosecution did not produce a single witness to prove its case of manslaughter as Shimanya confessed to killing his wife unintentionally.
Evidence on record showed that the two had escalating marital issues resulting from infidelity however magistrate Patricia Amoko said issues of domestic violence should not be used as an excuse for one to kill hence sentencing him to 17 years in jail.
