The building was taken over by Orient Bank over an unpaid loan totaling to sh9b.

Security guards fired live bullets Sunday morning to disperse 'kanyamas' mobilised by a businessman in Mbarara City to forcibly regain access to his building that had been taken over by a bank over an unpaid loan.

Saracen guards were deployed by Orient Bank to guard Balya Mall after taking over its possession last week over a sh9b loan owed to them by the mall owner, Apollo Balya Muhumuza.

Reports indicate that the bank and Balya had a meeting on Friday and agreed that the tycoon pays the debt in November.

However, the guards were not withdrawn from the building located on the Mbarara-Masaka road.

Heavily built men then attempted to access the building but were repulsed by the guards, prompting the Police to intervene.
