Makerere congratulates Dollo and Buteera

Makerere University has congratulated Alfonse Owiny-Dollo and Richard Buteera, upon their appointment as Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda, respectively.

The University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabus Nawangwe on Saturday tweeted; "I congratulate Justices Alfonse Owiny-Dollo and Richard Buteera, Makerere's alumni on their appointment as Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice of Uganda respectively. You make Makerere proud."

President Yoweri Museveni appointed the duo on Thursday. The two names have since been sent to Parliament for vetting. Dollo becomes the 13th Chief Justice since 1962 when Uganda got its independence.

Dollo holds a Bachelor of Laws from Makerere University, and a Diploma in Legal Practice, from the Law Development Centre in Kampala.

His Master of Arts in conflict resolution was obtained from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom. He also has a certificate in advanced conflict mediation skills, obtained from the Center for Conflict Resolution, in Cape Town, South Africa.

Buteera also graduated from Makerere with a Bachelor of Laws degree. He followed that with a postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, awarded by the Law Development Centre.
