Kiggundu makes extra money by recycling old cloths to make doormats

Dorren Kiggundu is a businesswoman who has faced the financial crisis caused by the lockdown but she is glad that she didn't stay idle in the lockdown.

She used the internet to learn a skill of recycling old cloths to make doormats. Today she is making doormats and selling them to earn a living. She is also making tablemats and this has greatly changed her life.

How she does it
"I get old old clothes, cut them into sizable pieces and attach them to a sack. Later I get plain clothes and attach it at the back of the sack to make the door mat look good," she explains.

"I display the doormat and tablemats at my place of work .it takes me half a day to make one door mat," adds Kiggudu.

"I usually sell them at shs 20,000-30,000 depending on the size," she adds.
Kiggundu notes that doing this kind of work has helped her deal with the financial setbacks caused by the lockdown.

Today she is never worried of how to pay rent or how to feed her family. The money she earns from making doormats and tablemats helps her deal with her needs.

She advises fellow women, not to sit back and wait to be helped by government or well-wishers. "If you have a skill now is the time for you to perfect it and turn it into a business venture."
