Marine Vessel (MV) Sigulu has started sailing tests as it awaits official launch.

The 300-passenger state of the art vessel left Masese landing site in Jinja where it was built to Namayingo district where it is being operated on a trial basis as the maritime engineers ascertain its seaworthiness.

Reuben Tumwebaze the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) director for the Road infrastructure protection and safety said the vessel started the movements along the dedicated route of Sigulu- Lolwe Island in preparation for its official launch.

The construction of the vessel was completed last year by JGH Marine from Denmark at a cost of about sh16b.

Tumwebaze said as the MV Sigulu awaits official launch, more ferries are being constructed while others are under procurement under the ongoing government intervention on promoting water transport.
