Woman remanded to Alebtong Prison over theft of Police gun

A woman has been sent to Alebtong Prison after she was charged with theft of a Police gun in Otuke.

Jackline Akello, 25, appeared before Lira Grade One Magistrate Igha Adiro and pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Court was informed that on August 9, a gun went missing from Otuke Police Barracks.

Akello appeared in the dock together with Police Constable Moses Angena Okwir, 37, who was charged with failure to take safe custody of the firearm and ammunition.

The duo pleaded not guilty to both counts and were remanded to prison until August 27, when they will reappear for bail application. The gun, an AK47 assault rifle, disappeared from Barima Police detach in Olilim sub-county, Otuke district.

The same court also remanded one Denis Ogwang, charged with double murder of his uncle, Jackson Olung and his wife Paska Acan, on August 5 in Agweng sub- county, Lira district.

Solomon Engel alias Odongo was also sentenced to a fine of sh300,000 or eight months' imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to theft of a mobile phone.
