While the Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs remain in limbo over the start of the new football season, there is finally certainty about the FIFA COVID-19 relief support.
And it is the certainty of sh32.9m heading their way from the coffers of the local football governing body FUFA.
Good news certainly although it falls way short of the sh60m the clubs asked for over three months ago.
It, however, remains to be seen when the extra half of 500,000 (sh1.8b) will be released to the football community.
In June, FIFA announced a COVID-19 Relief plan to its Member Associations worth $1.5b.
Each member association is expected to receive a solidarity grant of $1m (sh3.7b) and an additional $500,000 (sh1.8b) was allocated specifically to women's football. Besides, each confederation will receive a grant of $2m (sh7.4b).
For now, the released funds should assist in easing a crisis that has been deepening every other day.
FUFA will convene soon to agree on how to also distribute the $500,000 (sh1.8b) meant for women football.
Each of the 16 UPL clubs is to receive sh32.9m as part of FUFA's disbursement of the sh1.8b received in July from world body FIFA as part of COVID-19 relief support for the global football fraternity.
FUFA released the breakdown of the funds that will be distributed to 13 different parties, including 6 league divisions accounting for 1057 male clubs. Among these, Big League clubs (16) will receive sh15m each and Regional Clubs (101) sh2m each.
