FDC presidential flagbearer: Picking of nomination forms starts

Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa is one of those interested in holding the opposition party's flag in the 2021 presidential election.

KAMPALA -  An effervescent mood engulfed the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party headquarters in Najjanankumbi as the picking of presidential nominations kicked off.

The FDC deputy spokesman John Kikonyogo told reporters on Monday that the people interested in being the party's presidential flagbearer for next year's election will pick nomination forms on Tuesday (today) and Wednesday.

Posters bearing the image of seasoned FDC presidential flagbear Dr. Kizza Besigye were seen plastered on various spots at the headquarters, providing an indication that President Yoweri Museveni's closest challenger in previous elections could yet again return to vie for the presidency.

Current party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi is understood to also be in interested in the race, as is Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa.



On a warm Tuesday morning, various items emblazoned with the party's name were put on sale for visitors.



The items ranged from shirts to half caps and key holders.



Meanwhile, the FDC electoral commission chairman, Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda, said the party's performance in Monday's village youth elections was poor.



There was a saturation of blue (the FDC symbol) at the party's head offices located just off the Kampala-Entebbe Road in Najjanankumbi.



Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa is interested in holding the party's flag in the 2021 presidential election, and his supporters came in full support of him.



Several party leaders and high-profile members made an appearance at Najjanankumbi, including Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who is also the party's spokesperson, and former Makerere University researcher Dr. Stella Nyanzi.



Amb. Biriggwa showed up to collect nominations forms.



He talked of how he had come to fix the "broken" nation.

In his delivery, he said: "We have a broken society. We have a broken economy. We have  a broken health system. We have a broken consciousness. We have a broken moral attitude. Everything is broken. I am born healer and I have come to fix this broken nation.
