TRIBUTE |
Members of Rubaga Cathedral National Foundation have paid tribute to Charles Mbaziira, a former businessman and Catholic philanthropist who died on August 8 at the age of 83.
They delivered the tributes during a memorial mass that they organized at the deceased's home at Kabalagala, in Makindye Division on Sunday, August 16.
The Administrator of Lubaga Cathedral and Patron of the organization, Fr. Achilles Mayanja marvelled at Mbaziira's deep faith and commitment to the Catholic Church.
"Our brother Mbaziira loved God and the Church. He was full of faith and love. He served the Church above self. He was always available to serve the Church. He never missed out on all the functions at Rubaga Cathedral. He was involved in the preparation of all important functions, including the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1993.
"He was an active member of Rubaga Cathedral National Foundation. He was on the Board of St. Francis Hospital Nsambya. He also served on the Protocol Committee of the Uganda Episcopal Conference and Nsambya Parish Central Organizing Committee. Interestingly, he has also groomed his children into the service of the Church," Mayanja said.
The former Pastoral Coordinator of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, Fr. Dr. Mark Richard Sajjabbi also spoke highly of Mbaziira's steadfast love and committed service to the Church and humanity.
Mbaziira's daughter, Mary Theresa Kiggundu who spoke on behalf of her mother (Matilda Mbaziira) described her dad as peaceful man of friendly disposition.
Others who eulogised Mbaziira included the Chairman of Lubaga Cathedral National Foundation Dr. Saturninus Mulindwa, the former head of the laity of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala Robert Ssempa and Nalongo Justine Nantuwa (a member of Lubaga Cathedral National Foundation) who spoke of Mbaziira's dedicated service to the Uganda Martyrs Guild, which he served as the Secretary General.
Earlier, before converging at the deceased's home at Kabalagala, members of Rubaga Cathedral National Foundation held memorial prayers at the tomb of Mbaziira at St. Peter's Proto-Cathedral Nsambya.
