Uganda's COVID-19 death toll hits 11

KAMPALA - Uganda's COVID-19 death toll has reached 11 after the Ministry of Health confirmed two new COVID-19 deaths.

According to the ministry, the two fatalities registered on Wednesday, are residents of Kampala Metropolitan area.

One of the deceased, a 60-year-old male of Indian descent, passed on at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) while the other is a 55-year-old Ugandan male, who had been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

"They both had signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Results from the tests done on August 12, 2020, confirmed SARS-Cov2," the ministry's press release read.

The health ministry also confirmed 21 new COVID-19 cases. Eight are truck drivers who arrived from Kenya via Malaba point of entry.

Three were contacts to previously confirmed cases in Kampala Metropolitan, one is a returnee from South Sudan while nine are alerts from Kampala, Masaka, Kasese, Luweero and Iganga districts.

The total number of COVID-19 cases have reached 1,353. So far, 1,141 people have recovered from the virus.
