Five facing charges of illegal gold dealing released on bail

The group is facing two charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and dealing in minerals without licenses

Buganda Road court has released on bail three Congolese and a Uganda who have been in Kitalya prison on charges of dealing in gold without a dealer's license.

 Claude Sengimana, Mboyo Wetshi Lowako, Bazatoha Patrick alias Micheal and a Ugandan Ibrahim Sekabira have been released on court bond of sh5m by grade one magistrate Doreen Kalungi.

Their five sureties were also ordered to deposit court bond of the same amount.

The group is facing two charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and dealing in minerals without licenses, which they all deny.

According to prosecution, the four and some still at large on July 29, 2020 within Kampala district conspired to commit felony when they negotiated the smelting and testing of 22kgs of gold nuggets at a cost of USD22,000.
