KAMPALA - The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr Steven Kaziimba Mugalu has appealed to government to help the Church reconstruct the demolished church in Ndeeba which was razed down by people he said lacked respect for God's temple.
While touring the site where St. Peter Church stood in Tomusange Zone in Ndeeba, Rubaga Division on Tuesday morning, Kaziimba said he was disappointed with what he was seeing, saying the demolition of the Church which had been in place for over 40 years was done at night during curfew time.
He described the act as barbaric and an indicator of how some people had lost respect for the house of God.
The archbishop said he used to preach and worship in the old Church before he was appointed a deacon and said the act was unacceptable in a God-fearing country.
He, however, thanked President Yoweri Museveni and government ministers that responded and arrested people involved but he appealed to him to go further and ensure the Church is reconstructed.
He also condemned police guards who had taken over the clergy's house for turning it into a brothel with evidence of women undergarments found inside when he toured it. He said there was a big challenge of ensuring the house is cleansed before it can be used again.
