Hospital team pick Lira truck driver

The truck driver who collapsed in his truck in Lira has been picked up by a health team and taken to Lira Regional Referal Hospital.
Two medical workers, dressed in protective equipment that has come to be associated with teams treating COVID-19 patients, arrived in an ambulance shortly after 6:00pm but soon realised that they would need back up when they found the driver too weak to move.
They went for back up and a bigger team arrived at about 6:30pm, before carrying the victim out of his truck and placing him on a stretcher before it was loaded into the ambulance.
Earlier, the town had been thrown into panic after the driver of a truck with Kenyan registration plates collapsed in his vehicle that has been parked at the roadside since Saturday evening. Moreover, efforts to have him evacuated to hospital by local leaders had been futile.
Residents, who suspected the driver of suffering from the deadly Corona Virus, said they had informed both security and health officials to intervene, but no action has been taken yet.
Jimmy Mao, Chairperson LC1 Angwetangwet B, Angwetangwet parish in Lira said he had informed the authorities on Saturday evenning but was disturbed that close to 24 hours later, there had been no response.
The director of Lira Regional Referal Hospital, Dr. Stephen Obbo, had earlier, in a phone conversation, said arrangement were being made to pick the patient.
