Muhammad Shaban raring to go after recovering from injury

Aug 03, 2020

With the departure of Bayo, Shaban will be tasked with finding goals for the Kitende based side.

Muhammad Shaban is already proven and tested forward in Ugandan football. His return from a knee ligament injury that kept him out since April 2019 puts a smile on the faces of Vipers' fans now that their lead striker Fahad Bayo has left the club to join Israel's Ashdod FC on a four-year deal.

With the departure of Bayo, Shaban will be tasked with finding goals for the Kitende based side.

"Every player has his own impact on the team. Bayo was in good form and my return will also add impetus upfront," Shaban said.

Shaban who is good in the air and with dribbling and passing attributes is expected to be among the top scorers next season.

"I want the top scorer's gong of the Uganda Premier League (UPL) and to also help my team qualify for the group stages of the CAF Champions League. I also want to see that Vipers retain the league title," he added.

Talking of guiding Vipers to the group stages of the CAF Champions League, he did so while at KCCA FC in 2018. His goal at Lugogo saw KCCA eliminate Ethiopian giants St George 1-0 on aggregate to become the first Ugandan team to make to that stage.

With the league champions scheduled to compete on five fronts namely the CAF Champions League, Uganda Premier League, Uganda Cup, FUFA Super 8, and FUFA Super Cup, the likes of Shaban need to play a big role.
