Kasengejje Tombs: Police halts meeting

Jul 28, 2020

The officer in charge of Kasengejje Police Post failed to handle the matter and escorted them to Wakiso Police.

The Police has stopped a meeting that had been organised by Prince Diriisa Wasajja on matters of Kasengejje tombs due to COVID 19.

On Friday last week, Wasajja had organised a meeting in which he wanted to forcefully evict Christine Naava Kaana out of Kasengejje Tombs.

According to Wasajja, Naava does not belong to Kasengejje Tombs and that she is a granddaughter who has no powers to do any work in Kasengejje Tombs.

Naava accused Wasajja and others of selling land that belongs to the tombs.

According to Naava, Wasajja has already partitioned the land into several plots with the intention of selling them.

In order to protect the land, she decided to start constructing a wall fence around the tombs, an idea Wasajja did not embrace.

Naava pointed out that she was directed by US-based Stella Ndagire who is in charge of the tombs.

She added that she also got clearance from the chief prince to build the wall fence in order to protect the land from people with self-interests.

Wasajja pointed out that the contested land does not belong to Buganda Kingdom.

It was at this point that Naava showed a willingness to pay the people claiming ownership so that the land remains for the tombs rather than selling it to other people.

She, however, challenged them to produce land titles to prove their allegations that the land is not for the kingdom but they declined.

Prince Nuhu Kiyimba who ran to Police after seeing the work of constructing a wall fence said he was fighting for his share and that he is not a thief.

Kiyimba added that he even has the title of the contested land saying that unfortunately, Naava is not aware of it.

"I'm fighting for my share and I want to let you know that I'm not alone. There is someone behind me and the administrator general is aware of what is taking place and he is ready to even attend any meeting held regarding the matter," Kiyimba revealed.

The officer in charge of Kasengejje Police Post only identified as Mahaire failed to handle the matter and escorted them to Wakiso Police.

Wakiso Police division commander Rogers Sseguya advised them to write to the RDC seeking guidance over the matter.

He, however, ordered them to stop any development on the contested land until the matter is resolved.
