The indefinite closure of education institutions has left thousands of Ugandans with no means of survival. The hardest hit are the staff of these institutions.

Though some are doing odd jobs to survive, some have not yet found their footing. It is upon this background that Uganda Christian University has decided to reach out to its staff with some form of relief aid.

In an internal memo addressed to the staff by the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Can Dr John Senyonyi, beginning this week, UCU has been handing out relief hampers to its staff.

"All of us are going through a very difficult time to provide for ourselves and our families; this has been a major concern of management. It is in this spirit of care and love that management has put together a very modest hamper for each of you to share with your families," he said.

He told the staff of his continuous prayers for their and families' wellbeing, noting that it's still unclear when normalcy will return.

"I have continued to pray for you and your families that you will experience the love of God more and more. It is my hope that soon there will be a clear way forward for university education in our country," he said.

The staff started picking their hampers on Monday this week and the process will continue till Friday.

Senyonyi also shared with them Psalms 16:8 to encourage them during this time. The verse says, ‘I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved'
