Ugandans stranded in Germany jet in today

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport this evening, the repatriated group will be quarantined as advised by the Ministry of Health.

Ugandans who were stranded in Germany over COVID-19 lockdown have been repatriated today and will be arriving at Entebbe airport any time soon, an offical statement from the Ugandan embassy in Berlin has said.

The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda to the  Federal Republic of Germany has successfully seen off a total of 48 Ugandan Nationals and legal residents who have been stranded Germany, Austria, Poland and the Vatican following the closure of Entebbe International Airport to passenger flights on March 22, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Embassy undertook the registration process of Ugandan Nationals who were stranded  and co-ordinated their return aboard Ethiopian Airlines which is expected to arrive  this evening  21st July 2020 at 5:45pm at Entebbe International Airport.

The Ugandans returning from the Germany  include all categories of people, including government officials, academics,  students undertaking various exchange programmes, official staff of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ Uganda) German Corporation for International Cooperation and others who had travelled to for various reasons.

After fulfilling the standard procedures issued by the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health of Uganda, guidelines by the German Government, the Ugandans were seen off at the Frankfurt am Main International Airport   by Uganda's Ambassador to Germany, H.E. Marcel R. Tibaleka, Ms. Margaret Ossettov, Ms. Claire Adihambo and other Mission Staff.

The Ambassador thanked the Ugandans and other legal residents for their patience they exhibited during the difficult times they have endured as a result of the pandemic and wished them a safe journey.
