The Dutch government and Amref Health Africa have partnered to curb the spread of COVID-19 along the Northern Uganda transport Corridor.

The Head of Mission of the Embassy of the kingdom of Netherlands to Uganda, Henk Jan Bakker said the project will be implemented by Amref and Healthy Entrepreneurs.

According to Bakker, the project is aimed at mobilizing and building the capacity of a network of Village Health Teams (VHTs) and health workers in the districts of Luwero, Nakasongola, Kiryandongo, and Amuru up to Elegu border.

Speaking while signing the partnership, the country director of Amref Health Africa in Uganda Abenet Berhanu, applauded Netherlands government for the support it has provided to Uganda over the years.

Berhanu said the partnership will enable them to scale up the efforts for increased awareness, prevention, control and management of COVID-19 and to support continuity of Sexual Reproductive Health and other related medical services.

"The project will run for six months and target 4000 VHTs members, 132 health workers from 33 selected health facilities along the northern Uganda transport corridor," Berhanu said.

He added that Amref is currently running three projects that are funded by the Dutch government.

The funded projects include total health project that supports the renovation and installation of water system in health facilities in Amuru district, health system advocacy programme that advocates for access for Sexual Reproductive Health commodities and services, among
others.
