It is reported that the firearms were acquired in 1965 under different names

The Police on Tuesday last week at Mpala Cell, Kitala Ward, Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District recovered two rifles from the residence of the late Rev. Fr Gerald Sserwadda Jjuko.

The recovery followed a tip by one Ndaula Joseph, a brother to the deceased who informed the Police of the firearms after the death Sserwadda on June 12, 2020.

According to the Police, the recovered rifles are a twelve-bore no. YA1557 and an air gun no. 8507 without ammunitions.

It is reported that Sserwadda acquired the firearms in 1965 in the name of Kayemba Charles Lwanga and that the license expired in 2001.

The rifles were taken to Entebbe Police Station as investigations into the matter are on-going.

Cases of possession of illegal guns by members of the public continue to be registered all over the country.

The Police advises members of the public that are in possession of firearms to verify their licenses and make sure that they are renewed as in accordance with the law.
