From dust to green: Nyamityobora grounds renovation work on the right track

Jul 06, 2020

The renovation works at the FUFA Big League side Nyamityobora FC home ground in Mbarara Municipality is steadily going on.

The zeal and determination of the fans with their physical contribution has seen the half part of the facility leveled and black soil laid and leveled too.

From this, the fans have not waited to have the whole playing surface covered, but have started planting grass (Bermuda grass) on the part that has 50% of the laid black soil so far.

A water connection has been extended to the ground, to help irrigate the planted grass frequently as the dry spell has already started in the area.

The work that commenced two weeks ago with the fans under the leadership of their chairman Muzamir Ssekajja doing most of the manual work, is already encouraging, with each day producing a different step and the dream to have it ready by October, still lives.

"We are going on well, the determination of the club fans is immense and this shows that we shall achieve our target of having the facility ready before next season commences in October," Ssekajja said.

Ssekajja however says the level at which the work has reached, needs more finances to back up the physical energy of the fans.

"We still have more 150 lorry trips of black soil and this is beyond the efforts of the fans. We are still calling upon other well-wishers to come and give financial assistance," He said.

Other Nyamityobora FC fans and football lovers around Mbarara have come out with a helping hand, including Hon Michael Tusiime, Emma Boona, Kakoba Division chairman Hajji Abbas Kazibwe, Mwesigwa Rukaari, have contributed trips of black soil, but Ssekajja says more is needed.

Originally bare and dusty, Nyamityobora FC only used the grounds in the 2017/2018 FUFA Big League where they qualified to the top flight season of 2018/2019 before they were relegated back to the second tier league, but FUFA had since rejected the grounds, pushing them to Kakyeka.
