When one is told that sport is in the blood stream of many people, it's easy to cast doubt on that assertion.

Over at Kaberamaido Primary School playground, that was put to the test and it was proven that sport can pull a crowd when it is allowed to operate under any condition.

The playground in Kaberamaido Town attracted a big crowd of people who turned up on Sunday to watch a community athletics competition featuring 20 competitors.

The organiser of the competition, Sam Egaru, said there were people who developed an argument among themselves on who could defeat the other when put to compete in an athletics race.

He said they chose a race of 100m to separate those who wanted to prove a point to others. Six women participated alongside fourteen men.

Among the people who took part in the race included the LC3 of Kaberamaido Town Council, David Oswald Einyu and the LC3 of Kaberamaido sub-county, Francho Echolu.

Emolu said among those who competed were people who looked out of shape and they were placed in their separate category.

Emolu took on Echolu while Hellen Agayo beat the rest of the other three women she competed with against in the 100m race.

Agayo credited her slender physic for lulling her opponents into a false sense of security before she beat them.

"I am happy that I have shown that I can run and beat those who were arguing with me," Agayo said.

Rashid Ochen who was the table recorder said they did not call on people to witness the competition but he was surprised to see a big crowd turning up to watch the race.

"This is a clear indication that people like sports. It is also a sign that people are fed up with the lockdown and they need where they can relax their minds," Ochen said.

Kaberamaido Primary School has always been a busy place where football is played on every weekend but since COVID-19 struck, it has been a distant memory.
