KAMPALA - Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has appointed George Rwabajungu the new chief executive officer.

Rwabajungu replaces William Kiryahika who retired in December last year after hitting company's retirement age of 60. He had served the electricity subsector for about thirty-five years.

From January, Valentine Katabira, the company's deputy chief executive has been the acting chief executive officer. He now returns to his substantive position.

Rwabajungu has a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting from Makerere University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

He comes with close to twenty years of experience in senior management. He previously worked in National Housing and Construction Company and Uganda Railways Corporation as the chief finance officer.

He has been serving as the manager of finance, accounts and sales since joining UETCL in 2010

He ascends to the helm of electricity transmission at a time when the sector is grappling with increasing generation capacity vis-à-vis low consumption growth.

This has been partly attributed to insufficient infrastructure that has been partly occasioned by the slow implementation of transmission projects. This has left consumers paying more for unconsumed electricity.
