Security is investigating the circumstances under which a 76-year-old woman collapsed and died while chasing her late son's pension.

Annette Kasumba, a resident of Butandiga cell, Busamaga Parish, in Wanale Sub-County, Mbale District, reportedly collapsed inside the lift while heading to the offices of the Directorate of Veteran Affairs, located on Postel building in Kampala.

It is alleged that before using the lift, the deceased who has been responsible for the estates of her late son, tried to climb the steps to access 7th floor, where the offices of the Directorate of Veterans Affair, are located.

The Deputy Army Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Deo Akiiki Asiimwe, has said the deceased is the mother of their fallen soldier, the late Lieutenant Andrew Muduli, who passed on in 1999.

"After the tragic incident, we called in our medical team from the Senior Officers' Diognostic Centre Mbuya, led by Dr. Dr. Brenda Aboke, who brought an ambulance which transported the deceased's body to Bombo General Military Hospital for postmortem and further management," said Akiiki.

He adds that at the time of her death, the deceased was in company of her son one Wagidoso Wasolo, and a Ministry of Defence staff, Apollo Welishe.

"Annette has received gratuity money and by the time of her death, she was receiving monthly payments. What we have established is that, the deceased has been battling with arthritis and high blood pressure, however, we have involved the Police to help us with investigations," the army added.

As a result, the Directorate of Veteran Affairs encourages all pensioners and claimants under the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs to utilize the established zonal offices in their districts as the first point of call instead of coming to the ministry Headquarters.
