Police arrest pregnant woman over impersonation, fraud

Police in Lubigi, Nansana Municipality have arrested a 25-year-old woman for soliciting money from people promising to get them jobs with the United Nations (UN).

Daphne Nawenja was arrested on Wednesday when one of her victims reported to the police.

The victim who talked to New Vision on condition of anonymity said he gave Nawenja  sh100,000 after she promised to recruit him in the UN under the World Food Organisation.

Nawenja said she did this to buy food because she had nothing to eat yet she is pregnant.

She asked for forgiveness from the police and swore never to get involved in such actions.

Nawenja added that she started committing the crime during the lockdown and that she has conned over three people.

According to the officer-in-charge of Lubigi police post, James Kakaana, Nawenja was charged with impersonation and fraud on file number Sd Ref 17/17/06/2020.

He added that she will be arraigned in court.
