59-year old strangled to death over land

On Monday, while addressing a security press conference, Enanga said Police has continued to register several cases of deaths resulting from domestic violence and family land wrangles.

How will government curb the sharp increase in domestic violence cases? This is a question that has puzzled seasoned homicide investigators attached to the Police's Criminal Investigation Directorate.

The disturbing details emerge barely a week after Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said; "A total of 12 people were killed as a result of domestic violence cases revealing that they are on the increase."

The gruesome incidents involving the 12 victims, were reported in Buwama, Kampala, kyenjojo, Kampchorwa, Mbale, Gulu, Mukono, Gomba and Kabarole districts.

On Monday, while addressing a security press conference, Enanga said Police has continued to register several cases of deaths resulting from domestic violence and family land wrangles.

Explaining the cases, Enanga said a local businessman a one Mikairi Kalenzo, 59, was attacked and strangled to death as a result of land wrangle. Until yesterday, he (Kalenzo) was a resident of Kasanje Town Council - Wakiso district.

"The body had bruises around the neck suspected to have been strangled by unknown assailant(s)," Enanga said.   Although the motive of the murder is not yet established, preliminary Police findings indicate that the ‘deceased has been involved in a land wrangle with his neighbours."

The deceased's body was taken to Mulago hospital for postmortem, as efforts by police to trace for the culprits for prosecution is still ongoing.

Mukono

Prossy Namaganda, 28, was attacked at her rental house and stabbed to death by her husband Abdallah Matovu. The incident happened at Kasanga Village, in Kyampisi Sub County, Mukono district.

"After the incident, the suspect went into hiding. The motive of the murder is suspected to be domestic wrangles as the duo has been living in different houses after getting misunderstandings one year ago. On the fateful day, the suspect had come for supper," Enanga said.

Mubende

Yowas Maniraguha alias Mbiraba, 17, was stabbed to death by his younger brother Medard Tirenganya aged 13. The incident happened at Budibaga East Village, Kalonga Parish, Kitenga Sub County in Mubende District.

Police findings indicate that the deceased (Maniraguha) was stabbed in the stomach when he confronted his brother who had intervened after he had assaulted his mother while drunk. Tirenganya has been detained at Mubende Police Station pending investigations.
