Four armed attackers killed, five injured in Nwoya

According to the UPDF 4th Division spokesman, Maj. Caesar Olweny, residents armed with bows and arrows at attacked the UPDF military detachment.

ATTACKS

At least four people were on Thursday night shot dead while some of them reportedly fled after a group of people armed with bows and arrows reportedly from Nebbi district attacked a Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) detachment in Nwoya district over an alleged land dispute.

The 9:00am-10:00am attack that took place within Obira-West village, Got-Apwoyo sub-county in Nwoya district left four attackers dead. Five of the attackers were reportedly injured and rushed to Pakwac Health Health Centre IV.

According to the UPDF 4th Division spokesman, Maj. Caesar Olweny, residents armed with bows and arrows at attacked the UPDF military detachment.  

Olweny said the UPDF soldiers hit back shooting some of the attackers dead. He said the UPDF recovered some bows and arrows from the scene as evidence that the attackers were locals armed with dangerous weapons. He said the UPDF intelligence was on the ground to ascertain the details and the motive of the attack.  

Olweny said the attackers were estimated at 70, all armed with bows and arrows, machetes, spears, and axes among others.

He said the attackers slashed off a Maize plantation in the nearby farm.

He said the UPDF could neither confirm nor deny that some of the attackers sustained injuries during the morning stampede. He revealed that some people came from the Erusi sub-county in Nebbi district to pick the injured and take them for treatment.

The Nwoya Resident District Commissioner, Agnes Akello Ebong said she could only give details after they had completed the emergent security meeting with the leaderships of Nwoya and Nebbi districts following the attack.

"We are still having a security over that issue my brother. I can only give comments after we have finished the security meeting. So, please hold on", said RDC Akello-Ebong.
