The Manifesto Week 2020 kicks off on Monday with presentations from government ministries, agencies, and departments on their performance against the 2016-2021 NRM Manifesto.

The manifesto is hinged on a commitment to drive the country to modernity through job creation and inclusive development over a five-year term.

With hardly a year left to the end of the implementation term, an assessment by the Office of the Prime Minister indicates that nearly 80% of key targets have been met.

On May 12, 2016, President Yoweri Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) started a five-year term following February 18, 2016, general elections.

Speaking at the launch of the Manifesto Week on Friday, the Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said most of the promises have been met while some are nearing completion.

Dr. Willis Bashasha, the head of the Manifesto Implementation Unit in the Office of the President, told New Vision that preparations for the sessions were complete.

"It is a form of celebration because it coincides with the date when the president was sworn in.  It is largely about accountability for different sectors on how they have delivered," he stated.

During the manifesto week, ministries, departments, and agencies will report on how far they have performed in their areas of mandate, against the manifesto commitments.

"The sessions will be held over a ten-day period in an interactive manner, with question and answer sessions involving the media and policymakers," Bashasha explained.

In light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Dr. Bashaha said the manifesto week will adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) established to forestall infection spread.

"We are very mindful of the current SOPs issued by the ministry of health and also the presidential directives. The event will be hosted in our auditorium which is very spacious and allows social distancing between the teams and the media houses," Bashasha explained.
