President Yoweri Museveni has committed half of his salary to the fight against COVID-19.

The President earns about sh3.6m as monthly salary, 20% of which goes to his political party, the National Resistance Movement.

"It will be upon the civil servants and the reasons they give you for not contributing to this important cause," Museveni said as he wooed other government workers to join the drive.

While addressing the nation on the COVID-19 pandemic, Museveni also revealed that the manufacturing sector had developed in the country.

Though the tourism sector has been affected, Museveni highlighted that other sectors of the economy were thriving.

"Tourists are not coming …but manufacturing is going up. For example the price of sanitizers, soap has gone up because people use them to clean hands regularly," Museveni said.

"The price of coffee has improved because when people stay at home they grow more coffee," added Museveni.

Museveni explained that the manufacturing sector has developed and the country would soon start making personal protective equipment, medicine, vaccines and sanitizers.

"We need to adjust for the economy to grow, for the tourism sector will boom when you handle the manufacturing side well," Museveni advised.

Museveni also appreciated the citizens for responding positively towards curbing the spread of Coronavirus.
