KAMPALA - A joint security team has shot and killed two thugs who were terrorising the community in and around Mutundwe, Rubaga Division, Kampala.

The duo was part of a group of 10 thugs who had built a temporary structure in a swamp located at Mirimbe zone below Natete Taxi Park, Rubaga Division in Kampala, police said in a statement on Monday.

"They had nick-named their hideout as the 'jungle'. They call themselves the 'jungle gang'," Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said in a statement.

According to Onyango, the thugs allegedly used to leave their hideout and head to various places to rob before they would go back and hide in the swamps.

Today, he noted, the group had robbed people and police were informed and they started chasing them.

"In the process, the two were shot and they died instantly. Others are suspected to have been wounded, entered in the swamps and disappeared," Onyango revealed.

He identified the two only by one name each as Bonny and Kizza aged between 20 to 23 years.

Exhibits that were got at the scene include laptops, hard discs, Go TV decoders, pangas, marijuana, and others.

The hunt for the eight other thugs who ran away is ongoing.

Onyango appealed to members of the public with information or if they see anyone with a bullet wound to inform Police in confidence.
