COVID-19: Lira Sikh community donates over sh30m

LIRA -In a bid to help the government curb the spread of COVID-19, the Sikh community in Lira district has donated assorted items worth sh30m.
Among the items according to Sikh community leader Surjit Singh are; 1,000 kg of rice, 3,550 kg of maize flour, 1,000 kg of beans, 100 kg of sugar, 80 packets of salt, 500 bars of soap and 200 litres of cooking oil.
The items were handed over to Lira district COVID-19 taskforce at the premises of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) on Thursday.
During the hand-over of the assorted items, the Sikh Community Chairperson Surjit Singh lauded the Uganda government for the actions they have taken towards the fight against COVID-19.
Singh, who is also the managing director of Guru Nanak oil mills promised the government of continued support in the fight against COVID-19.
Other donations
Cycle connect, a company working with farmers in the district also donated 50 bicycles to the taskforce.
The director of White House and Margaritha Hotels, Bosco Ogwang Edola donated sh400,000.
The Lira RDC, Milton Odongo who is also the chairperson of the district COVID-19 taskforce received the donations in the presence of other district task force committee members.
Odongo, while receiving the goods pledged total transparency and accountability during the distribution to the targeted beneficiaries.
