The upgrade involves the construction of modern facilities including a general ward, improvement of the out-patient department, two twin staff houses, VIP latrine, placenta pit, medical waste pit, and general external works.

The exercise will be funded by a loan from the World Bank under the IFTPR programme.

In December last year, Kwania district council approved the upgrade of Aduku Mission Health Centre II to Health Centre III status pending final approval from the health ministry.

The District Health Officer of Kwania, Dr Moses Ebong, said the facility has been upgraded to Health Centre III status after the assessment by the health ministry.

Now that the facility is upgraded, Ebong believes it will handle many patients with different health-related problems and will go a long way to improve on service delivery in the district.

"The newly upgraded health facility will greatly improve on service delivery. Our main facility has overwhelming numbers of patients, you could imagine over 900 patients visit the facility monthly with only two doctors," Ebong said.

Christine Anek who is in charge of Aduku Mission Health Centre III said she is optimistic the development will improve on the quality of their services in order to benefit the local community.

"The services we had been offering were limited compared to demand by patients who visit the facility, now that is upgraded the local people have reasons to smile," Anek said.

Misslean Auma, a mother of two and a resident of Alany cell in Aduku town council, expressed gratitude over the development. She said she is now confident to look for her third baby since believes the upgrade of the health facility will service expectant mothers better due to distance to access the facility.

Tom Ongol, a 64-year-old resident of Acobanok in Nambieso sub-county thanked the government for coming to their plea to uplift the health facility.

Aduku Mission Health Centre III, a non- profit Catholic founded health facility is located on Apac-Lira Highway at Aduku Catholic Parish headquarters and it offers laboratory services, antenatal care and immunisation services among others.
