Busiika turns focus to Armed Forces Motocross Championship

Busiika was meant to host the FIM Africa Central Africa Motocross Championship (FIM CAC) on Easter, but it was also canceled.

The management of Uganda Motorsport Arena Busiika has turned its focus on hosting a successful Armed Forces Appreciation Motocross Championship in October organised by Motorcycling Association (MAU).

This is after the Africa Motorcycling governing body (FIM Africa) postponed both FIM All Africa Nations Motocross Championship (FIM AFRICA MXOAN) and Continental Enduro championship to next year because of the COVID-19 threat.

"There is no problem postponing it and we shall wait next year, but our target is now the October Armed Forces which we want to be bigger and fantastic," Barak Orlan,d the proprietor of Busiika said.

Busiika was meant to host the FIM Africa Central Africa Motocross Championship (FIM CAC) on Easter, but it was also canceled.

Meanwhile, Uganda will still host the event next year and South Africa will host the 2022 edition.

"Yes the continental body  (FIM Africa) put off the event, but the good news is that we shall still host it and it will be called the 2020 FIM Africa MXOAN," the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) deputy vice president in charge of Motorcycling Kisitu Mayanja confirmed the development.

Kisitu added that despite the disorganisation, he welcomed the idea of Uganda remaining host to the event because losing the opportunity to host such an event will have a far-reaching impact on the sport in the country.

"This COVID-19 has had far-reaching negative effects on all sports disciplines, including a lock-down on all activities, but the most important is that we have got more time to plan better," Kisitu added.

He explained that he was worried they were bound not to meet their expectations if the event was held this year because most companies have channeled most of their CSR budgets to the COVID-19 victims and it would be difficult for the federation to pull enough resources to run the event as planned.

Uganda last hosted the event in 2012 in Busiika, emerged champion, and was targeting to duplicate the same results.

South Africa that was meant to host the 2021 edition will now host it in 2022 and that year, the council will determine who will host 2023 edition.
